On January 17th, 2024, Samsung fans watched with anticipation as Samsung revealed the highly anticipated 24th S-series: the Samsung Galaxy S24, the Galaxy S24 Plus, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

In case you missed it, or if you just want a recap of the highlights, we’ve got all the details about the Galaxy S24 Plus right here, including how much the S24 Plus costs, what specs to expect, how it compares to last year’s S23 Plus and more.

Want a detailed breakdown of the other models? We’ve got comprehensive guides on the base Galaxy Samsung S24 and the Galaxy Samsung S24 Ultra too. Looking for the best Galaxy S24+ deals? We've got those, too.

Galaxy S24 Plus Release Date

When did the Galaxy S24 Plus come out? Along with the S24 base model and the S24 Ultra, the S24 Plus was released during the launch of Galaxy Unpacked at 10 A.M. PT (1 P.M. ET) on January 17th, in San Jose, California. Of course, Samsung launched other new devices at the same event, but the main focus was on the Galaxy S24 series.

The Galaxy S24 Plus arrives in stores on January 31, 2024.

Galaxy S24 Plus Price

Over the past few years, we haven’t seen big price hikes on new flagship models. If you want the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, you can expect to pay around $999 for it. The Samsung Galaxy S24 retails for $799, while the premium Galaxy S24 Ultra sells for $1,299. This does not take into account the deals many carriers and manufacturers provide, especially if you trade in older phone models.

Plus, if you were one of the lucky few pre-registered for the Galaxy Unpacked event, you got $50 in Samsung store credit to buy your new Galaxy S24 Plus.

Galaxy S24 Plus 5G

As more networks expand their 5G coverage, you’re probably wondering if the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus will support 5G. Good news: the phone comes with 5G mmWave support, the absolute cutting edge of 5G support.

In other fields of connectivity, the Galaxy S24 Plus doesn’t slack – you can expect to connect to your Wi-Fi network with WiFi 6E, which generally makes your Wi-Fi connection smoother, stronger, and more stable. The S24 Plus also comes with wireless charging, as almost all flagship phone releases include nowadays – great news for cable haters.

It also comes equipped with Bluetooth 5.3. While this is the latest and most stable Bluetooth release, it’s not a direct upgrade on the S23 Plus, which also included this. If you’re a devout convert to contactless payment, you’ll be happy to hear the S24 Plus includes NFC, which lets you securely pay with your phone, along with sending and receiving digital content with just a touch.

In short, no surprises here – the S24 Plus comes with all the advanced connectivity features you’d expect, with upgrades on last year’s model where applicable.

Let’s drill down into that Galaxy S24 Plus specs in more detail.

Galaxy S24 Plus: Galaxy AI

The only truly new feature in the Samsung S24 Plus is the inclusion of Galaxy AI, which is brand-new to this S-Series. Samsung’s new Galaxy AI is a software addition, allowing S24 Plus users to have instantaneous language translations even during live calls, AI-generated wallpapers, automatic Samsung note organization, and overall better image processing. Samsung is collaborating with some of Google’s AI too, releasing the new “Circle to Search”, which allows you to circle something in an image and search for it through Google.

While the S24 phones were the first to get access to these AI abilities, more and more of these AI functionalities will trickle down to other Samsung phones over time.

Samsung has been a big AI proponent for a while, so this move fits right in with Samsung’s vision for the future.

Galaxy S24 Plus OS: Seven Years of Updates

The main update here is not to the OS, which is Android 14, but rather that Samsung has announced it will support the S24 Plus for seven years after launch. This really expands the expected lifespan of the phone as previously, Samsung only guaranteed four years of support.

Galaxy S24 Plus Screen: Larger

Every year, phones seem to get a little bigger. The Galaxy S24 Plus is no exception, coming in with a 6.7-inch display compared to the S23 Plus’s 6.6-inch screen.

Galaxy S24 Plus Design: Similar Look, New Color Choices

Why fix it if it’s not broken? The S24 Plus does not deviate much from last year’s design, with the same flat screen and descending row of cameras down the back. But if you weren’t a fan of the S23 Plus’s color selections, this year you’ve got seven new ones to choose from: Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Onyx Black, or Marble Gray. If you order directly from the Samsung store, you’re able to get an additional three exclusive colors for the S24 Plus: Jade Green, Sapphire Blue, or Sandstone Orange.

Galaxy S24 Plus Camera: Same Great Hardware

This year’s Galaxy S24 Plus provides selfie fans with a 50 MP main camera, unchanged from the S23 Plus. Samsung also kept the same 12 MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto lenses for the Galaxy S24 Plus. You’ll get the same 3x optical zoom with the telephoto lens. In summary, the cameras are similar – the main improvement to the photos you take will come from the software upgrades Samsung is making now.

Galaxy S24 Plus Chipset: Regional Variations

Nothing majorly different here, but there is an upgrade. Last year, we saw the S23 Plus come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, and this year, we’re getting the upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

It’s worth noting that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset was designed with AI performance in mind, signaling where Samsung is focused.

Galaxy S24 Plus Battery Life: Improved (by 4.2%)

For heavy-duty phone users, you’ll be happy to hear the S24 Plus has a slightly larger battery capacity than the S23 Plus – 4,900 mAh compared to last year’s 4,700 mAh. Doing the math gives us a 4.2 percent increase in energy storage capacity. While this isn’t a huge increase, it’s good to see Samsung continue to improve battery life in its newer phones.

Galaxy S24 Plus Vs Galaxy S23 Plus

Now that you’ve checked out all the main differences and improvements, you may wonder if you should get the S24 Plus and trade in your S23 Plus model. We can’t tell you what to do one way or another, but we can round up the main differences and similarities to make your choice a little easier.

In summary, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus is not radically different from the S23 Plus, but some quality-of-life upgrades – and those new AI features – could be worth it to you.

Where the Galaxy S24 Plus Beats the Galaxy S23 Plus

Here’s a quick summary of everything that’s changed between the S23 Plus and the S24 Plus:

  • Bigger is better: 6.7in screen compared to 6.6 inches last year.
  • Battery extension: 4900mAh vs 4700mAh capacity

What Didn’t Change From the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus

What stayed the same? Both the S23 Plus and the S24 Plus Samsung phones kept some of the same features:

  • Combo of gently curved edges and a flat screen
  • Same cameras in both the front and back of the phone
  • The same 45W wired charging speeds
  • A similar price tag
  • 256GB base storage
  • Aluminum alloy material

Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus: How Far Would a Trade-in Go?

While your eyes may water a bit at the idea of forking over almost a grand for a new phone with not that many changes from last year’s model, keep in mind that if you own your current phone outright, be it a Pixel, Apple, or Samsung model, many carriers offer some great trade-in deals that can bring the cost of the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus down to more affordable levels.

The Bottom Line

If you’re wondering whether the S24 Plus is a good phone, let us answer that question: it is a great phone. While there aren’t major material changes between the S24 Plus and the S23 Plus, there are enough upgrades to make it a compelling upgrade option. Plus, the inclusion of Galaxy AI is a huge point in the S24 Plus’s favor.

With a slightly better battery, bigger screen, better software, and the inclusion of some pretty advanced AI features, the S24 Plus is a great example of Samsung’s exceptional phone design. While it’s pricier than the Galaxy S24 base model, but not as advanced as the Galaxy S24 Ultra model, the S24 Plus is a great compromise between both options.
