With a retail price of $999, the S23+ ain’t cheap. That’s what the phone would cost you if you didn’t take advantage of any deals. However, you can get the S23+ for much less than that (even for FREE), depending on what deal you qualify for.
Figuring out what deals you qualify for isn’t easy. Even the most wireless-savvy people out there have trouble keeping track of all of the promotions that carriers and vendors are offering on any given day. Luckily, there are only a few key questions in determining the best deals that are available for you:
Are you willing to trade in your current phone?
Trading in your phone is the best way to get a sizable promotion. The best deals for the S23+ will depend on whether you’re willing to do this and how new of a model your phone is. The newer your current phone, the higher your trade-in value, which is great news if your current phone is on the newer side. However, if you’re trading in an older phone, you may not get much of a discount off of that $999 retail price. It’s a lot like trading in your current car for a newer one.
So if you’re trading in a Galaxy S20 or an iPhone 12, carriers are usually willing to give you the best deals on the Galaxy S23+, but if you have a Galaxy S8 or an iPhone 7 to trade in, you may not get as much of a promotion.
Also, promotions have varying requirements on the condition of your device - some won’t accept phones with cracked screens, yet others will accept it even if the screen is completely broken; some promotions require your battery to be healthy, while others don’t have any requirements on battery life. This fine print can get annoying, so we clarify all of those specific details when we show you deals.
What carrier do you have now, and are you willing to switch carriers?
The carriers always try to do two things: 1) attract subscribers to switch over from their competitors, and 2) retain their current customers. Therefore, the carriers may run certain promotions for people willing to switch to them and entirely different promotions for their current customers, who they’re trying to convince to stay with them.
Most of the time, you get the best deal if you’re willing to switch to a different carrier. That’s because, in general, the big carriers (AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile) give better deals to people who are not current customers but are willing to switch to them. Remember, in this industry, carriers constantly try to win customers from a different carrier, so they tend to be aggressive with these “switch” promotions.
That said, carriers will also launch great promotions for their current subscribers. You may have seen ads that boast exactly this: offering the same deals to their existing customers as their new customers. If you don’t want to switch to a new carrier, finding one of these deals may be your best bet.
Are you willing to stay with a carrier for 24 - 36 months?
Carriers want you to remain a customer with them for the rest of your life… literally. The most valuable customers to them are the most loyal ones. In an effort to enforce that loyalty, carriers will often add requirements to deals for you to stay with them for a certain amount of time.
So if you come across a scintillating deal on a new Galaxy S23+ from a carrier, don’t be surprised to see a requirement that you stay with that carrier for at least two years (usually 24 or 36 months). Think of it as a contract that you have stayed with them for that time.
The fine print doesn’t end there. Carriers will not give you the entire promotional value of your deal as a lump sum at the beginning of your contract. Instead, they disperse the value evenly across the term of your deal (24 to 36 months), essentially making it a contract. If you decide to leave the carrier before that term is up, the carrier will make you pay back a proportion of that promotional value.
Here’s an example: let’s say you have a Galaxy S20, and you want the Galaxy S23+, which AT&T offers for $999. If you trade in your Galaxy S20, AT&T will give you an $800 credit if you agree to a 36-month deal. But AT&T won’t simply give you $800 upfront. Instead, they’ll apply that $800 credit over your 36 months, which would still cost about $5 per month ($999.99 - $800 = $199.99, over 36 months = $5.55). If you decide to leave AT&T before those 36 months are up (let’s say at month 18), then AT&T will make you pay back a portion of the original $800 credit they offered you ($400 if you left after 18 months because that’s half of the term required). Verizon and T-Mobile promotions work just like this as well.
Are you willing to purchase a premium plan?
Another way carriers get creative with deals is by requiring that you’re on a specific plan to get the deal. When they do this, carriers usually will require that you’re on one of their premium (read: expensive) monthly service plans.
If you’re already on one, then you already qualify. But if not, you may have to upgrade. Often, these premium plans will cost $10 per month more than a cheaper plan they offer.
This is important fine print! These premium plans may come with more data available and other perks, but they can make it hard to calculate the actual value of the promotion. For example, if the carrier is offering you $800 off of the Galaxy S23+, AND they require you to buy a premium plan for 36 months, then the real promotional value of the deal is more like $540 (not $800).

And what if your current phone is an iPhone? Rest assured, there are plenty of deals available to you.
If you’re willing to trade in an iPhone from the 12 or 13 generations, you’ll qualify for all of the highest-value promotions.
Interestingly, the same goes for iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max trade-ins. Send in your device, and you can get the same promotional value as iPhone 12 and 13 Users, typically up to $1000. That value drops to a maximum of $800 if you’re trading in an iPhone 11 or an iPhone in the 8 or X generation.
Remember, many of these high-value promotions may require a switch or a premium plan. If you’re unwilling to do either, you may find deals closer to $220 or $100.

The Galaxy S23+ launches with Android 13 and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. This is one of the most advanced chipsets out there, and it was made specifically for compatibility with Samsung phones.

As far as design goes, the size of the S23+ sits at 6.2 x 3 x 0.3 inches. Its design is very similar to the S22+, albeit with a slightly cleaner look around its cameras.

With a battery size of 4,700mAh, the S23+ is very solid in the battery life department. 5,000mAh tends to be where phones max out when it comes to batter size, so 4,700 is very respectable for a phone that is not the most expensive option in its lineup.
This trails the Pixel 7 Pro, which has a 5,000mAh battery, but it is better than the iPhone 14 Pro with its 3,200mAh battery.

What Are the Pros and Cons of the S23+?
The Samsung Galaxy S23+ is obviously a very powerful phone. As far as positives go, the improved processor puts it in a great position to compete with Google and Apple. While those two companies make their own chipsets in-house, Samsung is now partnering with Snapdragon to create chipsets specifically for their devices.
The triple camera system is still very advanced, edging out most other competing smartphones with its variety alone. The battery life is top-notch, existing as one of the most advanced phones with the level of battery life and charging that it has.
On the negative side of things, it is important to note that the S23+ is in the middle of two other models. There is the base S23 and the S23 Ultra, both of which have their own pros and cons. The S23 is the cheapest by far, but the S23 Ultra is one of the most advanced phones on the market.
The S23+ sits in between, making it harder to recommend due to the fact that the other two options cover so much of what people are looking for in a premium smartphone.

Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile have all offered significant discounts on the S23+ since its debut in February. Promotions vary depending on the time of year, but a customer looking to switch to AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile can occasionally get up to $1,000 off a new S23+ with a newer trade-in device and willingness to take a premium plan (with AT&T as an exceptioninsofar as both new and current customers are eligible for their most lucrative promotions). Keep in mind that eligibility for S23+ deals typically requires a trade-in and a financing agreement, and depending on your trade-in model and status as a new customer or upgrader you'll typically be eligible for anywhere between $220 and $1,000 in promotional credit.
