Galaxy A20 Review

Samsung’s Galaxy A20 has been replaced with the newer A21, but should you go with last year’s model regardless? Let’s take a look at the Galaxy A20 in a detailed review.

Galaxy A20 Quick Overview

The Samsung Galaxy A20 is an affordable and versatile mobile device with reasonably priced components. That means it doesn’t excel in any single area but does well enough in most important areas, like surfing the web, watching Netflix, or taking basic pictures. Think of this as a budget phone with some trade-offs, though none of those trade-offs are bad enough to make the phone unusable in any capacity.

The Galaxy A20 has a reasonably good battery life plus an excellent UI and is designed for comfort and intuitive operation above all else. That said, it is not very well known for its camera; the battery can charge quite slowly, and you won't want to rely on this phone to watch movies in ultra-high-definition glory.

What’s the Cost of the Samsung Galaxy A20?

The Galaxy A20 costs $250 if you buy direct from Samsung. This is not recommended since you can usually get it from other retailers for a lower price, especially given that the new Samsung Galaxy A21 is the same cost.

The Galaxy A20 is best for budget-minded shoppers looking for a reasonably good phone that doesn't excel in any one area in exchange for a low price. It's perfect for teens who need their first phone, adults who want something basic without breaking the bank, and everyone in between.

Breaking Down the Galaxy A20 in 2022

Not sure whether the Galaxy A20 is right for your needs? Let’s take a look at this cell phone’s main features and specs.

Galaxy A20 Dimensions

The Galaxy A20 is 6.24 x 2.94 x 0.3" and weighs just under 6 ounces. As a result, it's a decent size for a mobile device without feeling too large or bulky in your hand. The screen takes up the majority of that space, clocking in at 6.4 inches in total with a 1560 x 720 P resolution. It’s not as good as an ultra-wide, super AMOLED screen, but that’s the tradeoff for such a good price.

Galaxy A20 Colors

Unfortunately, the Galaxy A20 is only available in black at this time. You can supplement this with external cases, but the core phone itself is not available in other shades.

Galaxy A20 Battery Life

The Galaxy A20’s battery life is respectable, especially for the affordable asking price. When used for standard means, the 4000 mAh battery should last for about 13 hours and 46 minutes. This isn't the longest or the shortest-lasting battery on the market or from Samsung's lineup.

Galaxy A20 Cost

As you can see from above, the Galaxy A20 is available at a standard price of $250. But you can likely find it for cheaper from other retailers.

Other Galaxy A20 Features

Buyers should pay attention to the Galaxy A20’s plastic casing, which helps to drive down the price. Unfortunately, this also makes the Galaxy A20 a bit of a magnet for fingerprints. The plastic is also not as durable as the external case materials found in many other phones.

You can, of course, set up hotspots with this phone, and it comes with a microSD card slot. Importantly, it’s available under many different carriers, such as T-Mobile, Verizon, and so on.

You should also take note that the Galaxy A20 holds 32 GB of internal storage. That’s not much, and only 15 to 20 GB can be used for photos and apps. Unfortunately, Metro preloads a bunch of other programs on the device, most of which cannot be easily deleted.

Galaxy A20: The Pros

There’s a lot to like about this affordable phone, so let’s look at its best features one by one.

The Galaxy A20 Well-Designed

Firstly, the Samsung Galaxy A20 is pretty well-designed overall. The case is slick, the screen takes up most of the available space, and the phone has its buttons positioned in smart locations. Since it uses gesture-based navigation with Android, you don’t have to worry about clunky buttons in inopportune places.

The Galaxy A20’s UI Good

The UI for the Samsung Galaxy A20 is surprisingly intuitive and well-designed. Swapping between different apps and accessing the core phone functions is easy with a few basic thumb taps. Indeed, it’s very difficult to get lost when using this budget-friendly phone. In fact, many will find it better than other budget-minded phones, like certain AppleiPhones and Google Pixels.

The Galaxy A20 Has a Good Battery Life

As we broke down above, the Samsung Galaxy A20 has a pretty good battery life for the cost. Clocking in at over 13 hours on average, you shouldn’t run out of battery too frequently, especially if you regularly charge it or only use the phone for basic, everyday tasks and web surfing. It’s even better than the average battery life of the Galaxy S21.

The Galaxy A20 is a Good Budget Phone

Above all else, the main draw of the Galaxy A20 is its budget-friendliness. With an asking price of $250 or below, practically anyone can pick up his phone in new condition and have a reasonably good device for a variety of needs. It’s great for 4G LTEconnectivity, even though 5G is out of the picture.

Galaxy A20: The Cons

Even with the above advantages, there are some downsides to the Galaxy A20 you should keep in mind.

The Galaxy A20 Charges Slowly

While the Galaxy A20’s battery is pretty good, especially for the cost, it does charge fairly slowly. Therefore, you may want to get in the habit of plugging your phone in overnight to avoid running out of battery at an inopportune moment. Look elsewhere if fast charging is important to you or wireless charging connectivity. Other phones, like the Galaxy S22 Ultra or Galaxy A13, do a much better job.

The Galaxy A20s Camera Is Not the Best

Unfortunately, the Galaxy A20 doesn't have the best camera on the market by far. For example, it uses an Infinity-V display. That means the phone has a V-shaped cut-out, which houses the device's front camera.

This makes it easier than you think to brush up against parts of the display if you try to take a photo with one hand. The primary camera itself is a dual-camera module with a 13-megapixel lens plus a 5-megapixel wide-angle shooter.

The Galaxy A20 is Less Powerful Than Other Phones

The Galaxy A20 is also not the most powerful phone on the market (not surprising given its asking price). That’s because it uses a midrange Exynos 7904 chipset, which helps to keep the cost down but also results in lower average performance. Therefore, you shouldn’t be surprised if the phone lags from time to time.

Part of this lack of power shows itself with video playback. Given the baseline 15 60 x 720 P resolution, it’s not as sharp as the video footage you’ll find on other phones. Therefore, this isn’t the best phone overall for media viewing.

Should You Buy the Galaxy A20?

The Galaxy A20 is a good buy if you’re looking for something affordable and reasonably effective for web surfing and photo taking. But it's not the best for media viewing, taking top-tier pictures, or doing processor-heavy work.
