Cell phones have gotten progressively thicker over the years as manufacturers load them with bigger batteries, more expansive processors, and extra camera lenses.

However, certain manufacturers, including Apple, have committed to trying to go the opposite direction, to the delight of users who prefer lighter, more pocket-friendly handsets.

In this article, we’ll run down our list of the thinnest smartphones available right now, starting with the new iPhone 17 Air.

Apple iPhone Air: 5.6mm

Consumers demanded it, and Apple delivered it: the iPhone Air packs most of what makes newer iPhone models great into an insanely thin package. At just 5.6mm thick, and a feather-light 162 grams, the device truly earns its “Air” moniker.

The iPhone 17 Air is also purportedly extremely durable, thanks to titanium shielding in the front and back, and Gorilla Glass on the screen.

However, Apple had to make certain concessions in designing the iPhone Air. Namely, its battery is slightly smaller than the ones found in the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro, offering 27 continuous hours of video playback compared to 30 in the iPhone 17 and the 39 in the iPhone 17 Pro. Plus, the iPhone 17 Air only features one rear camera lens, compared to two in the iPhone 17 and three in the iPhone 17 Pro.

However, in every other way, the iPhone Air is a top performer, driven as it is by Apple’s fast and efficient A19 Pro processor.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: 4.3mm

Apple isn’t the only manufacturer committed to thinness. Samsung also has a jewel of a thin phone in its Galaxy Z Fold 7, which slims down just 4.3mm when unfolded.

Beyond that, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is one of the most dynamic devices on the market, a perfection of the foldable design that Samsung pioneered when it first released the Z Fold back in 2019. It’s extremely light, water resistant, and blazingly fast, thanks to the industry-leading Snapdragon 8 Elite processor it comes outfitted with.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: 5.8mm

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is the manufacturer’s thinnest non-foldable phone at a skinny 5.8mm. That’s just 2mm thicker than the much-heralded iPhone 17 Air.

Similar to that phone, the S25 Edge doesn’t sacrifice durability for thinness. It features a strong titanium frame, not to mention Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on its display. Plus, the Edge features two rear-facing lenses, to the iPhone 17 Air’s one.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold: 5.2mm

Another preeminent phone maker is Google, with its line of Pixel devices.

Like Samsung, Google is in the business of making foldable phones that are very thin when unfolded. The latest of these is the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is just 5.2mm when unfolded which, while bulkier than the devices mentioned so far, is still pretty darn thin. It’s also super durable, with an IP68 water and dust rating and a gear-less hinge. Plus, it’s $200 cheaper than the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, its most direct competitor.

Other Thin Phones

We’ve listed four of the thinnest mass-produced phones on the market so far—these are devices you’ll see on display if you walk into your local Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile store.

However, there are a litany of other niche phone makers that produce very thin phones. This includes brands like Oppo, Honor, and Huawei (granted, this particular brand is more mainstream overseas).

We’ve chosen to exclude these devices from the list given their obscurity in the United States.

The Bottom Line

The trend toward thinner smartphones is clearly gaining momentum, with major manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, and Google proving that impressive performance and sleek design can coexist. Whether it’s the feather-light iPhone 17 Air, the foldable marvel of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, the durable and elegant Galaxy S25 Edge, or the competitively priced Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, users now have more options than ever to carry powerful devices that don’t weigh down their pockets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the thinnest smartphone available in 2025?

The thinnest smartphones in 2025 are mostly flagship models from Samsung, Apple, and Google. Apple’s iPhone Air is the slimmest iPhone yet, combining a sleek 5.6 mm profile with high-end performance. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge and the latest Google Pixel models also focus on slim designs while maintaining premium displays and cameras.

How does the iPhone 17 Air compare in slimness to other phones?

The iPhone 17 Air is currently one of the slimmest phones on the market. Its ultra-thin design makes it noticeably lighter and more comfortable to hold than previous iPhones, while still offering flagship-level performance and a full-sized display. Compared to Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge and Google Pixel 10, it ranks among the top for both thinness and usability.

Are thinner phones less durable or lower in performance?

Not necessarily. Modern thin smartphones from Apple, Samsung, and Google use stronger materials and advanced engineering to maintain durability. The slim design doesn’t compromise processing power, camera quality, or battery life, although extreme thinness can sometimes limit battery size slightly.
