Find a Phone DealThe Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G is one of the most distinctive Android phones on the market. It can fold on a seam, just like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G, but in this case, it can fold along a horizontal axis. This effectively means that your average-sized phone can fold into a device half the size.
This unique design has made it popular among the general public, but there is much to like about the Galaxy Z Flip 3 outside of this gimmick. It is a great phone built under the umbrella of one of the industry’s most advanced phone series. Here is what you can expect from your Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3:
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 has two displays: the inner Dynamic AMOLED X2 display, which sits at 6.7 inches with a resolution of 2640 x 1080, and the outer AMOLED display screen size that you see when the device is folded, which sits at 1.9 inches and has a resolution of 260 x 512. The phone comes in cream, black, green, or lavender. It also has a 120Hz refresh rate, which is impressive for a modern phone.
The external display also has gorilla glass incorporated to increase durability, and it also sports Samsung’s armor aluminum body with an IPX8 water resistance rating. The phone had to be made as durable as possible, with the strongest aluminum, because most phone cases are incompatible with the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
The Z Flip 3 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, one of the most powerful CPUs Qualcomm has to offer. The phone is unlikely to crash or stutter, and its CPU and GPU are very powerful. This makes it a good phone for people who enjoy mobile gaming or other high-intensity mobile applications.
It comes with all the expected features of modern cell phones, including Bluetooth, Wifi, and LTE connectivity, allowing you to use apps for video calls, gaming, messaging, and social networking. The phone comes in various color options, including Phantom Black, Green, Lavender, Cream, White, Pink, and Gray. It comes with a 1.9-inch cover screen that displays notifications, allowing you to access many vital settings with a touch.
The phone’s rear has a dual camera system with 12MP wide and 12MP ultrawide lenses. Unlike similarly priced phones, the front camera has a 10MP lens, but there is no telephoto lens on the rear camera.
Overall the camera system is very standard, with very few standouts in either a positive or negative direction. It’s a generally intuitive camera system that lets you take selfies and scenic photos, but the camera suite on its own can’t compete with Apple iPhones.
The battery is a place where the Galaxy Z Flip 3 stumbles. At 3,300 mAh, the battery isn’t tiny for the industry, but it isn’t big either.
The problem is that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is a battery-intensive phone, meaning that this battery will only keep it powered for less than 10 hours, even on a good day.
This is significantly worse than the other Samsung Galaxy models, such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which has a 5,000 mAh battery (but, alas, it is not a flip phone). The Z Flip3 works with USB type C chargers and fast-charge adapters, and it supports 10W wireless charging; however, these features are relatively standard.
The biggest pro of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is that it can fold. This is a fascinating technology, and it also offers excellent functionality and accessibility.
First off is the compact design — you can halve the size of your phone at any time, making it even easier to take around with you. It is also very sturdy, meaning you do not have to worry about it too much when it is in your pocket. Additionally, the flex mode allows you to prop up the device and use it hands-free.
The foldability is not the only plus: the processing power of this phone is immense. It can do anything from running analytics to playing mobile games, and it will do it without stuttering. The Snapdragon 888 is tough to beat, and the Z Flip 3 uses it well.
However, the phone is also nearly a thousand dollars, and it does have some pitfalls for an expensive phone. The battery life is not stellar for a modern smartphone, with the average person likely needing multiple daily charges to keep up. It also has a very average camera system, which does not help either.
Overall, the price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the biggest issue here. If you were to take away the fact that the device can fold in half, you would be left with a smartphone that has a fantastic chipset and mediocre scores in almost every other category.
At $999, that is difficult to recommend to the average person. A thousand-dollar phone is meant to be a premium product, and 6-8 hours on one charge falls short of that distinction. That said, this is the most affordable option for you if you want a foldable phone.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is an undoubtedly impressive phone. Its foldability is unique, and the processing power blows most other phones out of the water. However, its low battery life and average camera system make it difficult to recommend for an almost four-digit price point. However, if you’re looking for a new phone that folds, this could be a great one for you.
