If you’ve watched YouTube at all in the last 5 years, you’ve likely come across an ad for Mint Mobile starring Ryan Reynolds.
Mint Mobile is a small prepaid carrier, or MVNO, that makes use of T-Mobile's coverage network to provide service to its customers. This is good news for Mint Mobile customers, since T-Mobile wields the most powerful 5G network in the country, and one of the best 4G networks.
In this article, we'll tell you everything you need to know about the Mint Mobile coverage map, so you can decide if signing up for a cell phone plan aboard the carrier's network makes sense for you.

Mint Mobile operates on T-Mobile’s wide-ranging system of national networks, giving it one of the most widespread coverage areas in the U.S. Mint users report that they are able to tap into T-Mobile’s Ultra Capacity 5G network in certain areas, giving them super-fast mobile speeds.
One caveat: T-Mobile tends to prioritize its own customers over MVNO subscribers during times of network congestion. If the network is especially busy, Mint customers may experience slightly slower speeds compared to T-Mobile’s primary users.
Mint Mobile’s 4G LTE network, by way of T-Mobile, spreads across 43% of the United States. While that’s less far-reaching than the ones belonging to AT&T-backed MVNOs like Cricket Wireless (58% national coverage), and Verizon-backed carriers like Visible (56%), rest assured that most cities and suburbs are well covered.
Mint Mobile’s 5G network—again, via T-Mobile—spreads across 36% of the country, making it the most robust in the country. What’s more, T-Mobile’s–and by extension, Mint’s—5G network is ever expanding as the carrier buys up more cell phone coverage towers throughout the country.
Mint Mobile customers on eligible plans can also tap into T-Mobile’s 5G Ultra Capacity network, which delivers high-speed data and enhanced reliability.
Mint Mobile is one of many prepaid brands operating aboard larger networks. That begs the question: How does Mint’s coverage stack up against some of its competing brands?
The handy chart below shows that Mint’s 5G coverage network outdoes the ones belonging to the likes of AT&T-backed Cricket Wireless and Verizon-backed Visible, whereas the carrier’s 4G networks trails a bit behind.

Mint Mobile’s use of T-Mobile’s powerful network gives its customers access to some of the best coverage around. After all, T-Mobile wields the best 5G network in the country, and pretty good 4G coverage to boot. What’s more, Mint’s plans are far less expensive than the ones available from T-Mobile itself, the most expensive of which is $100/month. Bottom line: Mint Mobile delivers affordability backed with great coverage.
Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile’s 4G and 5G towers to provide excellent cell phone coverage to its customers.
Mint Mobile is transparent about fees, so you'll know exactly what you're paying. The subtotal covers the cost of your selected plan, while the company says the Recovery Fee helps offset administrative expenses related to federal and state compliance. Fees are clearly laid out upfront.
No, Ryan Reynolds no longer owns part of Mint Mobile. In March 2023, T-Mobile acquired the company for up to $1.35 billion after getting the green light from the FCC. Reynolds, who held a 25 percent stake, reportedly made around $300 million from the sale.
