I had the chance to try out Xfinity Mobile's service for several months in and around my home area of Southern California.
As a then-Verizon customer, I was on the hunt for a cheaper alternative that would still deliver the kind of coverage I've come to expect from America's largest carrier.
The answer: Xfinity Mobile. The mobile outfit offers low-cost plans to Xfinity Internet customers (which I happen to be), and uses Verizon's network to deliver 4G and 5G service.
Below are my unvarnished opinions of the carrier, from its customer service to its coverage to its prices. Read on to check out my first-hand Xfinity Mobile review.

Xfinity Mobile offers a limited selection of plans, all of which are very cheap—especially compared to the majors (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile).
For my part, I signed up for the Premium Unlimited plan, which offers 100GB of premium data before speeds are slowed. That’s an incredible amount of data for such a cheap plan—just $10/month with a current promotion.
With all that cellular data, I wasn’t expecting to hit any thresholds—and I didn’t. I was able to enjoy fast speeds the whole time I was signed up.
The Premium Unlimited plan also includes 30GB of dedicated mobile hotspot data at similarly fast speeds. Again, this was an ample amount for me, and helped me connect my laptop to WiFi while I was traveling to and from the east coast over the Thanksgiving holiday.
All in all, I highly recommend the Premium Unlimited plan if you’re thinking about jumping aboard Xfinity Mobile. The combination of lots of cellular and hotspot data, 5G connectivity, and a super low price makes it completely worth signing up for.
I was able to test Xfinity Mobile's service in and around Southern California, as well as the east coast.
I assumed coverage wouldn't be an issue, since I live in a hotbed of fast Verizon spectrum (San Diego), and this is the particular network upon which Xfinity Mobile runs. Thankfully, this tuned out to be the case.
I found that my phone stayed connected to Xfinity Mobile's 5G network pretty much the whole time, which translated into fast, reliable service everywhere I went. This included 5G UW, Verizon's—and by extension, Xfinity Mobile's—fastest network.
Granted, your mileage my vary depending on where in the United States you're located, since Verizon's 5G network isn't omnipresent (yet) in all corners of the country.
Online reviews of Xfinity Mobile's customer service range from "perfectly fine" to "god help you if you need to speak to an actual human."
My experience with the company's customer service department was so-so. Getting past the AI chatbot—or telephone robot—to speak to a human agent was a chore indeed. However, once I was finally able to get through to a person, I was able to get quick help with my account.
I didn't get around to visiting an Xfinity store, but word is that's the way to go if you really need help with something.
Given my experience with Xfinity Mobile, here's what who I can definitively say the service is for.
First and foremost Xfinity Mobile is for customers who are already signed up for Xfinity internet service, since it’s not available to those who aren’t.
Beyond that, Xfinity Mobile is especially well suited to consumers who are willing to forgo some of the bells and whistles that come with postpaid plans in the name of saving money. While Xfinity Mobile’s plans are relatively pared-back and lacking in perks, they are dramatically cheaper than those belonging to Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Xfinity wants to keep you in its internet and mobile service universe, and are willing to offer cut-rate cell phone plans to convince you to do it.
After several months of real-world use, Xfinity Mobile proved to be a compelling option for the right kind of customer. Its biggest strengths are clear: extremely low pricing, generous data allowances, and access to Verizon’s fast and reliable 5G network. The Premium Unlimited plan in particular delivers outstanding value, offering far more high-speed and hotspot data than most people will ever need at a price that undercuts the major carriers by a wide margin.
That said, Xfinity Mobile isn’t without its drawbacks. Customer service can be frustrating to navigate, especially if you need to reach a live agent, and the service is only available to existing Xfinity Internet customers. Additionally, those who want premium perks, international features, or white-glove support may find the plans a bit bare-bones.

In most cases, yes! As long as your phone is unlocked and compatible with Verizon's network (most modern smartphones are), you can bring it over. This is often the easiest and most cost-effective way to switch.
Xfinity Mobile's main differentiator is its exclusive bundling with Xfinity Internet and its strong reliance on Verizon's network. Other MVNOs might use different networks (T-Mobile, AT&T) or have different pricing structures, but few offer the same deep integration with home internet services.
Yes, Xfinity Mobile provides access to 5G where it's available on the Verizon network, provided you have a 5G-compatible device.
