Straight Talk Wireless is a popular prepaid carrier that offers low-cost cell phone service aboard the Verizon network.
All of Straight Talk’s plans come with mobile hotspot data, from 5GB all the way up to unlimited. This is extra mobile data that you can use to connect your other devices (laptop, TV, tablet) to the internet.
However, there’s an important caveat to this: Straight Talk’s hotspot data is limited to 5 Mbps, which is pretty slow for modern needs, i.e. streaming, browsing, and gaming.
Still, that hotspot data comes in addition to a bunch of other perks, like unlimited calling and texting to Canada and Mexico, free Walmart+ memberships, and the backing of Verizon coverage. That may convince you that Straight Talk is worth making the jump to anyway.
In this article, we’ve highlighted the best Straight Talk hotspot plans—which is really just a list of the plans that contain the most hotspot data—you can buy in 2026. We’ve also devoted a section to explaining Straight Talk’s mobile hotspot data-only plans.

Straight Talk also sells two strictly data-only mobile hotspot plans. This is data that you can only use with standalone mobile hotspot units, not data that can be added to your phone plan. On the plus side, it’s fully high-speed data, and isn’t limited to 5 Mbps like what’s been discussed so far.
Here’s a summary of the two hotspot plans:
Given the cost of these data-only plans, we’d advise against them. You can save money by signing up for a cell phone plan that includes extra high-speed mobile data (unlike Straight Talk’s, which is slower), as the market is awash with options.
Since Straight Talk leases space on the Verizon network, you can generally expect the same level of 4G and 5G coverage from Straight Talk as you’d receive with Verizon itself.
Keep in mind, though, that major carriers tend to prioritize their own customers ahead of those on sub-brands like Straight Talk, so you may experience slower data speeds during times of network congestion.
Worried that you’ll be limited in terms of your phone options by going with a prepaid carrier like Straight Talk? Don’t be. The carrier offers the latest and greatest smartphones, from Samsung’s S25 series devices to the iPhone 17 and its many different iterations. Better still, Straight Talk is partnered with Assurant to offer a device trade-in program; you can apply any credit for your trade-in towards the purchase of a new phone.
Straight Talk offers an appealing mix of affordability, broad device compatibility, and access to Verizon’s wide-ranging network, but its hotspot limitations are important to keep in mind. While every plan includes hotspot data, the 5 Mbps speed cap makes these perks best suited for light work, basic streaming, and casual browsing rather than heavy or sustained use. Even so, the combination of generous plan features, international calling perks, Walmart+ memberships, and nationwide coverage makes Straight Talk a strong value for many customers.
Yes. Straight Talk offers data-only plans that work with approved hotspot devices and compatible tablets.
Yes. You can connect laptops, tablets, and other devices, though speeds may drop with heavy use or many connections.
Yes. Straight Talk allows you to refill or add data on its data-only hotspot plans whenever needed.
If you can make do with even less mobile hotspot data, you’ll want to take a look at Straight Talk’s Silver Unlimited plan ($45/month). It features 10GB of dedicated hotspot data (at 5 Mbps speeds), 5G readiness, and unlimited talk, text on the Verizon network. It also features unlimited cellular data, though that data is of the deprioritized variety.
Straight Talk’s Gold Unlimited includes the second-most hotspot data—30GB—of any of the carrier’s plans. Again, though that’s 30GB of hotspot data at 5 Mbps speeds.
But that’s not all: it also features unlimited talk, text, and cellular data aboard the powerful Verizon network, and a free Walmart+ membership—all for just $55/month. All of this makes Gold Unlimited an attractive offering for those on a budget.
Straight Talk’s Platinum Unlimited includes the most hotspot data—unlimited—of any of the carrier’s plans, albeit at the same 5 Mbps speeds as the other plans on this list.
At $65/month, it’s Straight Talk’s most expensive plan, but it also features the most perks: international calling and texting to Mexico and Canada, a Walmart+ membership, and 100GB of cloud storage.
