Consumer Cellular uses both AT&T and T-Mobile's networks, automatically assigning each customer to whichever network offers better coverage in that person's specific area of the country. Take a look at the maps below to see what kind coverage the two networks offer:
While Consumer Cellular is particularly well-suited to customers who bring their own phones to the network, the carrier does offer a tidy selection of devices for sale as well. This includes the latest iPhone 17 series.
Prefer to bring your own device (BYOD) to Consumer Cellular? It’s easy to check your compatibility online via the carrier’s online tool, and fast to activate service if you have eSIM functionality in your phone (as most recent models do).
If you're looking for a low-cost, high-value family plan, Consumer Cellular is a great option. The carrier's unlimited and capped data plans can be turned into multi-line affairs, saving you serious money. Not every prepaid brand offers family plan discounts (see Visible or Mint Mobile), so this is fee structure allows Consumer Cellular to stand apart.
Consumer Cellular offers discounts when you add extra lines to the same account. Each additional line reduces the per-line cost compared to purchasing single-line plans, making multi-line options more affordable for families.
Most plans drop in price as you add lines. For example, many limited-data and unlimited plans become significantly cheaper per line when you sign up for two or three lines instead of one.

If you and your family members tends to stay connected to WiFi most of the time—thereby limiting your cellular data consumption—signing up for a limited data (i.e. non-unlimited) family plan can save you a bunch of money.
Take for example Consumer Cellular's 5GB plan, which includes just enough monthly cellular data to keep you connected when you're out and about and away from a WIFi connection. For one line, it costs $25/month normally, but goes down to $23.75 with an AARP membership. However, it goes down to $20/month per line when you sign up for two lines, or $18.33/month per line when you sign up for three.
If your family tends to consume even a moderate amount of smartphone data each month, signing up for a multi-line plan that includes plenty of it can alleviate some headaches. Consumer Cellular's Unlimited plan is just such a plan, including as it does a generous 35GB allotment of high-speed data to use each month (per line). You can apply any of this monthly data to mobile hotspot usage as well.
Consumer Cellular's Unlimited plan goes down from $40/month to $30/month when you sign up for two lines, or $26.66/month when you sign up for three. The company isn't transparent about the costs for any more lines that that, as its website asks you to call them if you're seeking four or more lines.
